Colin received his Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) degree from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) in Portland, OR in 2013. He is currently a Doctoral Student completing a clinical Doctorate in Oriental Medicine at OCOM. (The Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree is the highest degree available in Traditional Chinese Medicine in the United States.)
Colin comes from a family with Western Medicine background. Both his father and grandfather were Western Medical Doctors. Growing up he was impressed with the power of medicine to heal people who were suffering, sick, and in pain. This inspired him to pursue a career in healthcare.
While taking science prerequisite classes for medical school and getting ready to apply for it, Colin’s Tibetan Buddhist teacher (a Lama from Tibet who has a monastery in the Hudson Valley of New York) suggested he undertake the traditional three-year retreat. He ended up doing the retreat instead of applying to medical school. After the retreat he spent three months in Tibet with his teacher and was exposed to traditional Tibetan medicine. Later, he spent six months in India studying language, philosophy, meditation, and Tibetan medicine. This is where he found his passion in Chinese Medicine with its combination of healing science and natural wisdom.
As an Acupuncturist, Colin specializes in Internal Medicine and the use of custom made herbal formulas for specific issues like digestive disorders. He recently completed a clinical externship in gastroenterology at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA.
Colin is currently certified to practice Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology nationally by the NCCAOM and by the State of Oregon through the Oregon Medical Board.
Colin's Buddhist meditation practice is a big part of his life. He also loves the food and music from his hometown, New Orleans. He loves the ocean and any activities involving the ocean such as scuba-diving. He loves reading books, watching movies, travel and learning about new places and cultures.
